Lacombe County is seeking a Supervisor of Accounting Services to join our Corporate Services team and play a critical role in overseeing the County’s accounting and payroll functions.

Reporting to the Manager of Finance, the Supervisor of Accounting Services is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of accounting operations, payroll administration, and financial controls, while supporting key corporate initiatives such as budgeting, audits, grant reporting, asset management, and project costing.

Key Responsibilities

As Lacombe County’s Supervisor of Accounting Services, you will:

  • Provide leadership and direct supervision to Finance staff, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, utilities, and reception, with a strong focus on mentorship, performance management, and team development.
  • Assist the Manager of Finance in the financial management of Lacombe County’s funds in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and regulatory standards.
  • Oversee accounting services for subsidiary and partner entities, including review of financial statements and board reports.
  • Lead payroll operations, including review and approval of monthly payrolls, year-end payroll and pension reporting, and interpretation of employment standards legislation and benefits programs.
  • Manage grant financial processes for all departments, including applications, monitoring, reconciliation, and interim and final claims.
  • Support preparation of budgets, financial reports, variance analysis, and year-end adjusting entries.
  • Oversee tangible capital asset accounting, project and work order costing, inventory controls, and gravel inventory processes.
  • Maintain strong audit controls and support the annual external audit.
  • Serve as a technical resource for financial and payroll software systems, including security management, process improvement, end-user training, and system enhancements.

Key Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Business, Commerce, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible accounting experience; having obtained or progress toward a CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation is preferred.
  • Several years of progressive accounting experience with strong knowledge of GAAP and PSAS in a computerized environment.
  • Proven leadership and supervisory experience, including staff performance management.
  • Extensive payroll and benefits administration experience; PCP or CPM designation is an asset.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with advanced Excel proficiency; municipal software experience is an asset.
  • Ability to interpret legislation and policy, communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, and manage competing priorities independently; grant financial management experience is an asset.

The Opportunity Operations Department | Full-Time Position | Monday-Friday | 6:45am-5:00pm

Lacombe County is currently accepting applications for a Full-Time Grader Operator. The Grader Operator is responsible for safely operating a grader to maintain County roadways, ensuring they are in good condition for the residents and visitors of Lacombe County. This position is based out of the County’s main shop, located at 40403 Range Road 27-4.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain gravel roads and right-of-ways in a safe, efficient, and logical manner.
• Perform snow removal on paved and gravel roads (clear the roadways).
• Assist in the application of dust control.
• Assist with the graveling program as it relates to the roads within the assigned division.
• Complete daily and routine equipment inspections, including pre- and post-trip checks, and perform minor maintenance to maximize equipment life.
•Comply with all safety policies, procedures, and operational standards.

Key Qualifications

• Previous grader operator experience in road maintenance or construction is preferred. Must possess, and be able to maintain, a valid class 5 Alberta driver’s license. A Class 3 or 1 is considered an asset.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, with the ability to perform light servicing and routine maintenance.
• Possess strong sensory and judgment skills, depth perception and awareness of equipment weight, balance, and speed.
• Must be able to work in physically demanding conditions and perform manual labour, including heavy lifting.
• Must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions and on varied terrain.
•Willing and able t o work irregular hours, including call outs during the winter operations.
•Must have a proven ability to interact with others in a calm, courteous and respectful manner.

The Opportunity Operations Department | Permanent Full-Time Position | Monday - Friday |

Lacombe County is seeking a dedicated, experienced, and hands-on Assistant Construction Supervisor to support the planning, coordination, and delivery of the County’s road construction program - from start-up to final reclamation, and everything in between.

This role supports the Construction Supervisor by providing hands-on leadership, coordinating daily field operations, and stepping into equipment operation as required. This role works closely with the Construction Supervisor to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in compliance with regulatory and quality standards.

We’re seeking an individual with experience in road construction, heavy equipment operation and leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Construction Supervisor with planning, scheduling, and coordinating municipal road construction activities and projects, including project start-up, design support, landowner engagement, coordinating utility moves, obtaining regulatory approvals, and overseeing the final reclamation.

• Provide hands-on leadership to the construction crew by assisting in coordinating daily work activities, setting clear expectations, and promoting a positive and collaborative team environment. Support employee development by identifying training needs, providing direction and mentorship, and addressing performance issues constructively.

• Provide assistance in developing grade plans and utility coordination. Interpret road construction grade plans and make adjustments as needed based on onsite conditions.

• Operate a variety of heavy equipment during peak periods, holidays, leaves of absence, or operational needs to maintain uninterrupted project progress.

• Monitor construction activities to ensure workmanship meets quality standards and complies with regulatory requirements, safety standards, and project objectives and is within budget.

• Assist with cost tracking and record keeping related to construction projects.

• Work with landowners to support the negotiation and execution of right-of-way, back-sloping, borrow pit, and other construction related agreements.

• Respond to public inquiries, service requests, and complaints related to road construction in a professional and timely manner.

• Promote and uphold a strong safety culture.

Key Qualifications

• A minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on construction experience, preferably in municipal or road 
construction. A good working knowledge of municipal road building is preferred. Experience with 
Provincial and Federal regulations and best practices related to road construction is considered an asset.

• Extensive experience operating and maintaining heavy equipment.

• Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise construction teams, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to standard.

• Strong technical understanding of road construction methodologies, grade plans and utility coordination.

• Able to interpret and adjust construction plans as needed. Ability to analyze construction challenges and adapt to changing onsite conditions.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with staff, landowners, contractors, and the public.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint).

• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, with an acceptable driver’s abstract is required upon hire.

• This is a safety sensitive position; the successful applicant will undergo a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.

• This position requires working both outdoors and in an office setting, often in varying weather conditions, noisy environments, and on active construction sites.

The Opportunity Operations Department | Full-Time Position (7 - 8 months seasonal) | Monday - Friday | 7:00am - 5:00pm

Lacombe County is seeking a full-time seasonal position for a Survey Assistant to join our Operations team for the 2026 construction season. This position is approximately 7 - 8 months in duration, anticipated to run through November, weather dependent.

Reporting to the Surveyor, the Survey Assistant provides field and technical support related to road construction and other County projects.

Key Responsibilities

•Prepare and tie stakes in advance for use during various stages of the construction process.
•Assist with all aspects of surveying activities, including road staking, fence lines, drainage and culvert beds, cemeteries, and any other tasks assigned to the survey team.
•Load, unload, set up, and tear down survey equipment with care and precision, recognizing the sensitive nature of the equipment.
•Complete and document daily vehicle inspections prior to field work and ensure the survey truck is properly stocked with required equipment and materials.
•Assist in the preparation and interpretation of working plans, drawings, detailed standards and specifications, and layouts for road construction, asphalt surfacing, and water drainage projects.
•Assist in preparing road profiles, road designs, gravel pit working plans, and other design work as related to road construction and capital roadway projects.
•Participate in workplace safety initiatives and meetings. Report to work fit for duty.

Key Qualifications

•Reliable and able to work 9.5-hour days (normal hours of work are 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday; additional overtime may be required).
•Grade 12 diploma is required; a Survey Technician Certificate is considered an asset.
•Knowledge of imperial and metric measurements is an asset.
•Ability to read maps and understand legal land descriptions is an asset.
•Physically capable of performing demanding work, including hammering stakes, lifting and carrying loads, shoveling, digging, and walking moderate distances over uneven terrain.
•Knowledge of road construction and maintenance techniques.
•Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and across varied terrain.
•Willingness and ability to develop and maintain knowledge of road design software, including AutoCAD, Eagle Point and Excel.
•Possess and maintain a valid class 5 driver’s license.
•This position is considered a safety/sensitive position. The successful applicant will need to participate in the Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing.

The wage for this position starts at $22.4hr + stat and vacation pay
