Third Reading to Bylaw 1369/22 was given October 27, 2022 by Lacombe County Council, which adds a “recovery centre” definition to the County’s Land Use Bylaw, and further lists a “recovery centre” as a discretionary use on the W½ Pt. SW 16-39-01-W5M.

The developer must still obtain a Development Permit for the proposed use.

Rezoning - Palm Cove, Sylvan Lake

On April 14, 2022, Council gave second reading to Bylaw 1367/22 to rezone approximately 3.65 hectares (9.04 acres) of W½ 34-39-02-W5M to Residential Conservation Cluster ‘R-RCC’ District.

In 2011, Qualico Communities received approval to redesignate approximately 38.69 hectares (95.61 acres) on W½ 34-39-02-W5M to Residential Conservation Cluster ‘R-RCC’ District, to develop a 59-lot residential development, to be known as Palm Cove.

Brownlow’s Landing, Proposed Accretion: Survey Results

Lacombe County recently conducted a survey to gather the community’s feedback on municipal reserve land, as part of developing an accretion plan with landowners in Plan 1970 EO and Pt. NE 25-40-01-W5M. This area is in the community of Brownlow’s Landing on Gull Lake. This survey was a follow up from the public meeting held at Lacombe County’s office on August 20, 2019, for the community near the proposed accretion.

Joffre Solar Park (PACE Canada)

The Joffre Solar Park was granted conditional approval by the Municipal Planning Commission on February 11, 2021 under Development Permit Application 01/21. The solar park located on the west half of section 30 Township 38 Range 25 W4M, adjacent to the Joffre Petrochemical complex is expected to generate 47 MW of electricity. PACE Canada LP is a joint venture partnership between SWITCH Power Corporation, an Alberta-based Independent Power Producer, and Pathfinder Clean Energy (PACE), a global clean energy development and investment company. Together, they develop and manage solar assets throughout western Canada.
